California Updates Anti-Harassment Training Requirements (SB778)

On August 30, 2019 Governor Newsom signed into law clean-up legislation SB 778. SB 778 delays the implementation of the new anti-harassment training requirements (SB 1343) and any refresher training until calendar year 2020. SB 778 goes into effect immediately.

Here are the key takeaways from SB 778.
- Training deadline moves to January 1, 2021. Extending the original deadline by one year.
- Employees trained in 2019, will NOT need to be trained again for 2 years.
- Employees trained in 2018 do NOT need to be retrained in 2019.
- Further clarified that all new hires shall be trained within 6-months of hire, and that employees promoted into a supervisory position must be additionally trained within 6-months of the assumption of the supervisory position.
